Eroded earnings

A study released by the Buerau of Economic Analysis today found that the average per capita earnings of people the Twin Ports area (St. Louis, Douglas and Carlton counties) slipped six-tenths of a  percent from 2008 to 2009. That’s hardly a surprise, given the state of the nation’s economy and the number of people who have had to shift careers or endure across-the-board pay cuts.

I’m writing a story for tomorrow’s paper about this study, and I’m looking for some locals who have had to adjust to lower pay in 2009. If that sounds like you, I’d like to hear your story and perhaps share it with our readers. Please give me a call at 279-5526.

FYI: the average per capita earnings of a person living in the Twin Ports area was $34,387 in 2009, versus $34,595 in 2008.

At least inflation rather tame, with personal consumption spending rising just two-tenths of a percent in 2009.
